The Gift of Presence: Why I Built a Legacy on Passports and Presence

This Mother's Day, give a memory, not a gift. Discover the story behind Tranquil Escapes — how a suitcase always half-packed, a daughter named Sophia, and a life lived between the U.S. and Sweden built a legacy on passports and presence.
This Mother's Day, Give a Memory, Not a Gift.
There are moments in life that quietly define everything. They are the kind of moments you don't fully understand while you are living them, but later realize they shaped who you became, how you love, and what you chose to build.
For me, that moment wasn't an event — it was a rhythm. It was a suitcase always half-packed, a small hand in mine, and a heart that somehow lived outside of my body.
Her name is Sophia.
She is my daughter, my greatest achievement, and the reason Tranquil Escapes exists.
From Duality to Discovery
Growing up between the United States and Sweden, I always felt like part of me belonged to more than one place. That duality became a gift; it taught me to see the world not just as destinations, but as living, breathing stories waiting to be felt.
Sophia received her first passport at one year old. Before she could fully speak, she was tasting the world — the sounds of Swedish summers at our family stuga and the excitement of somewhere new.
The Shift: From Survival to Soul-Work
When Sophia was four, our lives shifted. I became a single mother. Like many women, I stepped into survival mode. I worked multiple jobs, I showed up, I did what needed to be done. But my heart was pulled toward something more aligned.
I kept coming back to one thing: Travel.
Not as an escape, but as a return. A return to myself, to presence, and to my relationship with my daughter. In between the hustle, we found our way back to each other on airplanes and quiet mornings in unfamiliar places.
> "Connection is not something you find more time for — it is something you choose, intentionally."
Why "Regenerative" Travel Matters for Families
This is the foundation of Tranquil Escapes. I didn't want to just sell luxury; I wanted to curate meaningful experiences.
Regenerative travel doesn't just take from the world; it contributes to its healing. When you travel with intention — whether it's a private thermal pool in La Fortuna or a hike in the Hudson Valley — you aren't just a tourist. You are building a legacy.
A Different Kind of Mother's Day
Motherhood — whether you are a mother, aunt, or grandmother — is about witnessing growth. This Mother's Day, I invite you to offer something lasting.
Imagine gifting the woman who shaped your life an experience where you are both fully present. No distractions. Just shared discovery. This is how legacies are built.
